West Bengal records high voter turnout on penultimate polling day

Kolkata, New Delhi, May 01 (ANI): West Bengal recorded a high voter turnout of 78.25 percent in the fifth phase of the ongoing assembly elections. As many as 53 constituencies across three districts went to polls amid tight security on Saturday, the results of which will determine the state’s next government. Polling started at 7 a.m. and ended at 6 p.m. across 14,500 booths as the Election Commission (EC) recorded a high voter turnout. Deputy Election Commissioner of India, Sandeep Saxena, said the figure is likely to increase as more data are awaited. The multi-phased elections in Bengal will conclude on May 05. The results for the polls will be announced on May 19.
