LEAGUE CITY, TEXAS — A robbery in broad daylight went bust after the would-be victim turned out to be a concealed handgun license holder.
The Galveston County Daily News reports that around 2:10 p.m. on Saturday, a man in a white Ford F-150 pickup truck pulled up at a McDonald's drive-through in League City, Texas. The man's 4-year-old son was in the backseat of the vehicle.
An armed robber walked up to the truck and pointed a gun at the driver. Fearing for his and his son's life, the man, who is licensed to carry a weapon, pulled out his own gun and shot the robber three times, striking him in the chest.
Responding police took the injured robber, who is as yet unidentified, to Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, where he later died.
The driver has been taken in for questioning and is reportedly cooperating with police, according to KHOU. Despite multiple witnesses confirming the attempted robbery, investigators say the case will be referred to a grand jury to determine whether criminal charges should be brought against the driver.
