BEIJING — The Chinese government has been forced to vehemently deny reports that it is packaging human meat as corned beef and shipping it to grocery stores across Africa.

Beijing got its panties in a bunch after several African news outlets reported the allegations made by Facebook user Barbara Akosua Aboagye in a post that was shared more than 26,000 times. The post has since been taken down.

South African websites Msanzi Live and Daily Post took it one step further by saying the Chinese were exporting human meat because of the country's overpopulation. They suggested China was having trouble finding space to bury its dead.

Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Yang Youming issued a statement on Chinese State Media saying, "Today a local tabloid newspaper is openly spreading a rumor, claiming that the Chinese use human meat to make corned beef and sell it to Africa.

"This is a completely a malicious slandering and vilification which is absolutely unacceptable to us. We hereby express our utmost anger and the strongest condemnation over such an act."

The funniest thing about the entire incident is that the images are actually from a 2012 Capcom PR event promoting the game Resident Evil 6, which set up a fake butcher shop with sculptures of supposedly human meat.
