What happened is they tried to fix the Italian voices being too loud compared to the rest of the audio by overblowing the dynamic equalizer to the point when it sounds even worse, and on top of that they did it by having the English track on a stereo track so the audio would get affected every time there would be Italian voices over it, like text being vocally translated.

The audio problem is NOT because of VHS recordings, it sounded like that.
