Doors explode. Masked and armed police burst into apartments in the middle of the night, screams, yelling: the faces of the arrested pass across the screen. French Arabs, blacks, whites. All are under twenty. Those that the French media calls "the Barbarians." It is February 2006. A few hours before the film begins, the police had discovered the body of Ilan Halimi beside the road in Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois. He was naked and burns covered 80% of his body. He had been kidnapped and held for twenty-four hours. He was Jewish, and hence his kidnappers believed he had money. The film unfolds in flashback, following events after the kidnapping. Car chases are intercut with scenes where we witness the victim's ordeal. A modern danse macabre that reflects the direction our societies are taking.
