Parkinson's Disease leaves traces in urine, which may aid in the development of treatments for it. Researchers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham found a protein in the urine of Parkinson's patients. The biomarker suggests they can track both the disease and the efficacy of experimental treatments. The new study published in the journal Movement Disorders measured levels of the protein in urine from 79 Parkinson's disease patients and 79 healthy people. More protein correlated with increases in cognitive impairment from the disease and difficulty accomplishing daily activities.
