Born into a traditional South Indian family, Sofia Ashraf – or Sofie- grew up with a spark of rebellion in her eye and a touch of hot pink highlights in her hair (look out for the funky drummer with the afro). Labelled many things over the years – raptivist, feminist, fundamentalist, narcissist, this ‘machi’ has strong coffee and stronger opinions.
For her first video, she turns the ‘item song’ upside down and Southside up. Tam Brahm Boy is a love song objectifying a typical Tamil Boy using hilarious southern stereotypes. Sista believes that women in this country are denied their sexual urges. This song is an unapologetic expression of primal desires and she hopes that over time it becomes acceptable for Indian women to speak out about their passions and their sexuality stops being demonised.
Swaggertam Sista!
