A man was arrested on Saturday (July 23) morning as he lurched towards the Olympic torch during the relay which passed through Guarulhos in Sao Paulo state.

The man, who has not been identified, reportedly tried to grab the torch and attacked a member of the National Security Force. He was wrestled to the ground by relay wardens and security officials.

After the man was removed from the area the relay continued as normal, moving onto the capital of Sao Paulo on Sunday on its way to Rio de Janeiro for the August 5 Opening Ceremony.

The torch is scheduled to arrive to the host city on August 4.
