A popular doughnut shop in Portland, Oregon is under fire for a job posting that appears to suggest that some need not apply.
The passage in question reads, “No non-medical, non-religious dietary restrictions that would stop you from tasting, accurately representing our food and maintaining quality control to maintain the highest standards of food safety and excellence. We serve products with meat ( including bacon) nuts, diary and our doughnuts contain wheat gluten.”
According to KGW, Nate Snell, the owner of Pip’s Original Doughnuts & Chai, says he’s been bombarded with harsh words from people who oppose the restriction.
Some say they will not patronize a store that shuns people for their ethical choices, while others suggest the shop’s hiring preference is illegal, which, incidentally, it isn’t.
For Snell, it’s really just about the doughnuts.
He told KGW, “I want people who are passionate about what they sell...If you can't eat it, how can you be passionate about it?”
