ATLANTIC CITY, NEW JERSEY — An Atlantic City police officer remains in critical condition following a shootout with a group of armed robbers outside Caesar’s Palace.
Reports indicate around 2:30 a.m. on September 3, two officers approached a group of men who looked to be “engaged in criminal activity” near the casino parking garage. As they walked toward the men, one of the thugs pulled out a gun and opened fire on the cops.
One of the officers was shot in the head. Miraculously, the bullet did not prove fatal. Wasting no time, the fallen cop’s partner returned fire on the thugs, striking one of them as the others fled the scene.
The man who was shot, identified as 25-year-old Jerome Damon, managed to get a block and a half from the scene before collapsing to the ground and dying from his injuries.
The gangsters had reportedly attempted to rob three other men moments earlier. The other two men involved in the incident have been apprehended, while the police officer remains in critical condition following emergency surgery.
