Notes: New England was AFC East division champs in 2015 but got eliminated at the Denver Broncos in the conference championship game as the team failed on a late two point conversion that would have forced overtime. A couple of late season losses were crucial as it cost them home field advantage as Denver was the home team in the AFC Championship. Tom Brady will miss this game to serve a four game suspension. It will be third year backup Jimmy Garoppolo getting the start. He saw mop up work a season ago and threw 27 passes in his rookie campaign. The team has a trio of capable running back in LeGarrette Blount, Brandon Boldon and Dion Lewis. The question is can Lewis come back effective from injury a season ago. Out wide for New England figure to be Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman. Rob Gronkowski played 15 games during the 2015 regular season. The Patriots was the sixth rated offense as the team averaged 338 yards per game. They converted 41% of their third downs.
The Arizona Cardinals were NFC West champions who were denied a trip to the Super Bowl by losing to the Carolina Panthers in the conference championship game. Quarterback Carson Palmer had a bad game with several turnovers. His receivers are the veteran Larry Fitzgerald, John Brown and Michael Floyd. Jermaine Gresham is the tight end. Chris Johnson was a surprise in 2015 at running back showing signs of his old form when he entered the league. He figures to share carries with Andre Ellington. The Cardinals were the top ranked offense in the league by averaging 408 yards per game.
