A meteor was spotted in the night sky over Cyprus on September 9, with a number of flashes and loud bangs reported. Ioannis Fakas, an honorary chairman at the Cyprus Astronomical Society, told local reporters that the meteor exploded over Cyprus on its way through the atmosphere and pieces likely landed in the sea to the north of the island.
