Asssetto Corsa PS4 gameplay. A quick race in the 2015 Ford Mustang GT at the Nürbürgring Sprint circuit.

I recently ran this race on Project CARS and figured it would be interesting to do a loose comparison with the same combination on Assetto Corsa. You can see the Project CARS race here:-

Aside from some pretty obvious differences in achievable lap times between the two titles all I really think needs saying is this:- Was the racing more enjoyable on one or the another? No, both were immense fun and both provided challenging and exciting racing - for me at least.

Is one more realistic than the other? Again, all I'll say is that the next time I get to drive a Mustang GT, at race pace, around the Nürbürgring in the real world I'll be able to give you an informed opinion. Perhaps we should all agree to do the same. Ultimately, it doesn't matter - both games/sims go about providing you with an experience that lets the majority of us feel as much like a racing driver as we're ever likely to get - the fact that they go about it in slightly different ways is neither here nor there to my mind. Both provide a "simulation" of the same experience, both offer enjoyment levels I can't really separate from each other.

For the record I ran both races using "factory" ABS and TCS settings and all other assists were off. The AI on the Assetto Corsa race was set to Easy, the AI in Project CARS at 80%. The AI in both sims was fun to race against and, for the most part, fair - maybe not perfect but as there is no such thing as a perfect driver, more than acceptable.

If you like driving and racing, both of the games offer you the chance to experience track racing at its best on the PS4 and Xbox One. Each has its strong points and its weaknesses and where one may excel in one area, it falls behind in another.

Recommending one over the other is not what this was about in any case - my advice though, if you are a racing fan, is to buy both if you are fortunate enough to be able to and enjoy what each of them has to offer with an open mind and an eye on having fun.
