On Friday, Ted Cruz did something that surprised and confounded many.
He endorsed Donald Trump.
In the days since, Cruz has described his decision to stand behind the GOP candidate, despite their political and personal differences, as "agonizing."
In the past, Trump has levied attacks against not only the Texas senator, but also his family, targeting his wife and suggesting that his father was somehow tied to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
The day after delivering the words of support for Trump via Facebook, Cruz told the crowd at the Texas Tribune Festival, “My faith teaches me to forgive, with or without an apology.”
Many of those gathered at the event apparently weren’t of the same mind, grilling Cruz on how he justifies supporting a "xenophobic" and "misogynist" candidate.
As a response to some of those matters, Cruz turned to the issue of nominations for the Supreme Court, saying that if Hillary Clinton gets to make them, the "freedom of speech" will be at risk.
