MADISON VALLEY, MONTANA — A grizzly bear attack in Bear Creek almost killed a man. Somehow, he miraculously survived, walked three miles and drove himself nearly 20 more miles to the nearest hospital.

Todd Orr says he was walking along a hiking trail scouting for elk when he spotted a mother grizzly bear and her two cubs. When the mother charged at Todd, he tried hitting her with bear spray from 25 feet away, but she ran through the mist and took him to the ground.

He tried to lay as motionless as possible while the bear had her way with him, biting him on the shoulders, arms and backpack. At some point she must’ve got bored and left, so Todd tried to get to his car.

About 10 minutes later, the bear returned for another attack. This time, she bit him so hard on his forearm, it cracked the bone. Surprisingly, after a few more bites, the crazed sow gave pause and walked away.

Stunned, Todd got up, thanked God and made a video of his account, which he later posted to Facebook. The video has accumulated more than 30 million views in less than two days. After driving himself 17 miles to the hospital, it took them eight hours to stitch Todd back together. Fortunately, he’s expected to make a full recovery.
