Mongla- ‘Elius and Majnu Bahini’, two banned bandit groups in world’s largest mangrove forest of Sundarbans which is mainly active in the Sundarban, yielded to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal officially with their illegal arms and ammunition, said RAB-8 commander -8 said on Tuesday.
The gang group started surrendering at 12:45pm today.
The crime-busting Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) unit-8 commanding officer Faridul Alam said RAB DG Benazir Ahmed and Jahangir Alam were among, present in the occasion at Mongla port.
The surrendered pirates are indetifed as follows Majnu Bahini chief Gazi (45), Babul Hasan, Jahangir Hossain , Md. Idris Ali , Md . Ismail Hossain, Md. Majnu Sheikh, Md. Rabiul Islam alias Imdadul , Md . Abul Kalam Azad, Mohammad Enamul Hossain and Ellius Bahini chief Elias Hossain and Md Nasir Hossain . All of them were hailed from Khulna and Satkhira district.
The pirates submitted 25 modern domestic and foreign arms and 100 bullests to elite force officials.
Majnu Bahini was powerful bandit group which used to swoop on fisermne, forest people and innocent people regularly in the west Satkhira for ransom for longer period of time. On the other hand, Elius Bahini was another gang which used to attack the same sorts of people for ransom which established its clout on the coastal areas of the Bay of Bengal.
On 29 May, the Master Bahini Chief Mohammad Mostofa alias Kader Master along with nine other dacoits started submitting around 51 modern arms and 5,000 bullets to elite force officials and later surrendered all members of the gang to home minister in a programme.
The robbers can go back to their normal life after facing legal actions which will be taken for their criminal activities, said RAB officials.
The hoodlums used to swoop on trawlers of fishermen, wood cutters, honey collectors and kidnap fishermen for ransom in deep forests of the Sundarban sporadically.
