With Mario Transitioning into Melee from SSB64, he has received a mix of buffs and nerfs (neither being buffed or nerfed), yet is a weaker character overall compared to his SSB64 incarnation.\r

+ Increased Walking/Dashing Speed\r
+ Wavedash as another movement option\r
+ Faster Up Tilt for combos\r
+ Up Smash has faster start up/ending lag\r
+ Faster Down Smash\r
+ Neutral Air has higher knockback scaling\r
+ Faster back aerial with less start up lag\r
+ New Forward Aerial can meteor smash\r
+ New Down & Up throw for chaingrabs\r
+ New Side Special for extended recovery option and a great edgeguarding tool\r
+ Mario Tornado strikes faster\r
+ Fireballs have less ending lag & travels faster\r
\r

- New Back Aerial does less damage/knockback\r
- Up aerial does 1% less damage and sourspot no longer combos into itself.\r
