America used to celebrate democracy in action when our country began with ‘election cakes’. Sweet, spiced and fruit-filled cakes designed to sustain voters at the polls. The cakes fell out of fashion in the mid-1800s but a new generation of bakers is reviving old recipes for the 2016 election.
