Some media outlets are claiming that Donald Trump Jr. may have perpetuated the idea that his father was the target of an “assassination attempt.”

Some media outlets are claiming that Donald Trump Jr. may have perpetuated the idea that his father was the target of an “assassination attempt.”
According to NBC News, the incident occurred on Saturday evening during the Republican nominee’s campaign speech in Reno, Nevada; a person near the stage allegedly yelled “gun” and Trump was taken off stage.
However, no weapons were located, and Trump was able to complete his speech.
The Washington Post has since reported that Donald Trump Jr. and the campaign’s social media director Dan Scavino quickly retweeted the same message citing an assassination attempt.
Sent from the account of Jack Posobiec, the original post reads, “Hillary ran away from rain today. Trump is back on stage minutes after assassination attempt.”
The Week notes that, contrary to an assumption of an attack, the man who was eventually detained was “actually a #NeverTrump Republican armed with a sign and no intention of doing Trump or his supporters harm.”
When CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway about Trump Jr.'s reaction, she responded by saying, “If you're Don Jr. and you're on a live TV set while you're watching this unfold, it's pretty rattling to think of what may have happened to your father, so I'll excuse him that.”
