On Friday, U.S. District Judge James Gwin issued a restraining order blocking the Trump campaign and Roger Stone from engaging in “harassing or intimidating conduct” at the polls. Gwin noted recent comments by Trump campaign surrogates hinting that supporters should engage in “ballot security,” though he ordered both Democrats and Republicans to refrain from doing so. Voter harassment is illegal, but the line between harassing voters and “monitoring” the polls can be blurry. State Democratic parties filed six complaints alleging the Trump campaign, Stone operatives and Republican officials plan to partake in voter intimidation on Election Day. Gwin’s order says any Trump supporter or Stone operative who intimidates voters will be punished accordingly.
