Speaking to The Washington Post’s Thomas Gibbons-Neff Thursday, Team Rubicon CEO and Co-Founder William McNulty said veterans shouldn’t expect civilians to always understand their missions and the impact of their service. “We need to realize that if a mission is not communicated in an adequate way, if the country doesn’t really understand, if it’s not clear why we’re sending men and women in a combat zone, then there shouldn’t be an expectation that the public understands what they are doing,” McNulty said. “For a lot of Americans, going to Iraq has nothing to do with their ability to go to Starbucks.” This lack of public understanding is what McNulty says “creates a civilian/military divide.”
