Assetto Corsa PC gameplay at Brands Hatch in the BMW Z4 GT3.
A while back I ran this race on the PS4 version of the game so this direct comparison with the PC version was an interesting experience.
The PS4 video can be seen at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYUvpJvcwHI
The immediate things that are noticeable are my much slower (2-4 seconds) lap times. I ran 1m 26/27s on the PS4 but only 1m 30S on the PC. This was probably down to me, combined with the force feedback settings I was using ( I didn't really do much in the way of tweaking for this race) Because of this I didn't have the confidence in the car as the steering felt a bit loose and vague compared to the setup I had on the console version. The car also felt much more prone to understeer at times but again, this was probably down to the FF being far from optimal for my taste.
Car setup should have been identical, all I changed on both videos were the tyres - soft slicks. Factory ABS and TC were used but you'll notice from the Motec that the levels applied were significantly different between the two platforms.
Aside from messing up and thinking I was on the last lap and letting the MP4 past at the beginning of lap 12 I was at least able to manage consistent, albeit slow, lap times. It wasn't a particularly exciting race, I did it purely as a quick comparison.
The much talked about AI were at 98% here and were set to "Hard" on the PS4 version. I drove better in the previous video, faster and tidier, and finished 7th out of 16. Here I managed only 15th out of 20 starters but I have to say that probably had more to do with my driving than any huge differences in the game itself.
Ultimately, after driving both versions, there are definitely differences. maybe not in core game physics but certainly in setup feel, force feedback options, tyre models etc. The PC version offers way more options to the player and in that area it is vastly superior to the console game. As you'll see, there is also a full replay this time - no chance of that on the PS4/XBox versions sadly.
Throw in all the third party apps and mods and the fact that the PC version is a lot cheaper, I'd be lying if I said choosing the more expensive and far more limited console version would be the best option - if you had the choice of playing both.
Having said that, the console version of the game, is, in my opinion, still a great driving experience - the core game is still excellent, probably one of the best you'll find on console if you're looking for a sim experience. They are quite closely comparable but they obviously have some pretty big differences in certain areas too.
