The court today announced Salman Khan guilty of all the charges including culpable homicide, in the 2002 hit-and-run case and now, the quantum of punishment has also been decided. The court has sentenced him to five years in prison and the superstar will have to move the High Court to apply for bail.
Sources claim that Salman will be taken into custody soon and may be taken to the Arthur Road jail. Culpable homicide attracts imprisonment up to 10 years however, Salman Khan's lawyer pleaded the court to be lenient with him in view of his humanitarian work.
On September 28, 2002, an inebriated Khan rammed his Toyota Land Cruiser into a pavement killing one person and injuring four, outside a bakery in Bandra, Mumbai.
