A dog got caught up in the spray as a firefighting helicopter performed a water drop on a burning vehicle during a bushfire on Russell Island, Queensland, on Thursday, December 15. The dog’s owner Rod Hammond caught the moment on camera, close up.
The video shows the water pouring from the helicopter onto the vehicle, successfully extinguishing the flames. Scrappy, a three-year-old cross between a Fox Terrier and a Chihuahua, then appears from behind the vehicle and shakes off some of the water. Hammond can be heard calling him “Scrappy the firefighter.” In comments under the Facebook video, Hammond said Scrappy needed a bath after, as the firefighters had used salt water.
According to The Courier Mail, the bushfire broke out midday on Thursday and had threatened 60 homes, but was contained later that day. Credit: Facebook/Rod Hammond via Storyful
