In her last reported sit-down interview as first lady, Michelle Obama told Oprah that she thinks her husband’s administration achieved a sense of hope, in her words, "Because we feel the difference now. See, now, we’re feeling what not having hope feels like."

Michelle Obama has indicated that she feels there is a lack of hope in the country right now.
She made the comment in a recent interview with Oprah Winfrey. In a clip aired on 'CBS This Morning,' Winfrey says to Mrs. Obama, “Your husband’s administration-- everything, the election--was all about hope. Do you think that this administration achieved that?”
The first lady responds by saying, “Yes. I do. Because we feel the difference now. See, now, we’re feeling what not having hope feels like.”
She then adds, “Hope is necessary. It's a necessary concept, and Barack didn't just talk about hope because he thought it was just a nice slogan to get votes. I mean, he and I and so many believe that -- what else do you have if you don't have hope? What do you give your kids if you can't give them hope?”
The Washington Post has previously reported that Mrs. Obama has remained relatively quiet since Donald Trump’s victory; however, she shared some thoughts about the country at a White House event for military families about a month ago.
She told the audience, “I just want to take a moment to echo what my husband said last week about the results of our election. He said that we are all on one team--not Democrats first or Republicans first, but we are Americans first. We’re patriots first.”
Since Trump was elected, social media has been championing the first lady to be a future candidate under the hashtag #Michelle2020.
However, President Obama stated in a Rolling Stone interview from late November that “Michelle will never run for office.”
