Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike said they uncovered strong evidence that the Russian military was behind the Democratic National Committee hack. The firm linked the malware used in the hack to that of in an Android mobile phone application used by anti-Russian forces operating in eastern Ukraine. The FBI, which also was investigating Russia's hacks for several years, privately came to the same conclusion. The firm's co-founder Dmitri Alperovitch said in relation to the hack that “we have high confidence” it was a unit of the GRU, according to the Washington Post.
