Donald Trump has called on President Obama to veto the UN draft resolution on Israeli settlements.

Donald Trump has called on President Obama to veto the UN draft resolution on Israeli settlements.
The resolution involves land that is occupied and desired by Palestinians as a state and demands Israel cease settlement actions there, notes Reuters.
That area includes East Jerusalem. CNBC reports that a 15-member council is scheduled to vote on the resolution on Thursday at 3 p.m. ET.
Early on Thursday, Donald Trump issued a statement on the matter.
It was published on both Twitter and Facebook and reads, “The resolution being considered at the United Nations Security Council regarding Israel should be vetoed. As the United States has long maintained, peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians will only come through direct negotiations between the parties, and not through the imposition of terms by the United Nations. This puts Israel in a very poor negotiating position and is extremely unfair to all Israelis.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made an appeal via social media as well, tweeting on Wednesday that the U.S., “should veto the anti-Israel resolution at the U.N. Security Council on Thursday.”
Politico notes, "Trump’s decision to make his stance known was striking in that, in theory, such matters are supposed to be left to the president still in charge to avoid sending mixed signals on U.S. foreign policy. "
