A baby girl was stolen during a carjacking outside a school as the mother and a family friend tried in vain to stop the thief.\r
\r
As the mother shouted hysterically and began banging on the windows of her Mercedes , her female friend jumped on the cars bonnet in a desperate bid to prevent it being driven away.\r
\r
Dramatic CCTV shows the woman clinging on to the front of the car as the carjacker takes off.\r
\r
The mother was on the school run and left the six month old boy in his car seat, when the brazen thief got in the driving seat.\r
\r
He can be seen on footage with a female accomplice and at least one other person, having pulled up near the school in Melbourne, Australia in a light coloured car.\r
\r
\r
Seconds later, the Mercedes can be seen in the video driving off with the woman on the bonnet, who clung on for around 400m before falling off.\r
\r
As an ambulance was called for the distraught mother, the man must have spotted the baby and decided to abandon the car.\r
\r
Detective Virginia Creece told the Herald Sun : Its quite a brazen act by this male, because the friend of the victim actually got on the bonnet of the car and attempted to stop the man from leaving.\r
\r
She added that a witness reported speaking to the suspect after he dumped the car. He said he had a baby in the car and didnt know what to do with it.
