Touted as the 'Oscars of Fashion' and more formally known as the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala Benefit , the Met Gala 2012 was recently held in new york. Hollywood fashionistas came decked in their best designer oufits to the prestigious red carpet and here's what they chose to wear at the year's most fashionable outing Beyonce Knowles strutted on the Met Gala red carpet wearing a sheer sequin Givenchy Haute Couture gown that cascaded into a skirt with a long feather train. This was her first red carpet outing post-partum and Beyonce totally owned the red carpet with this risqué outfit. Make-up spot on and she rounded up her look with a sleek ponytail.'The Avengers' star Scarlett Johansson walked in at the Met Gala 2012, wearing a nude Dolce & Gabbana off-shoulder gown. The fitted bodice of the gown had gold embroidery and crystal embellishments, which pooled down to a beautiful tulle skirt, making Johansson look like a fairytale princess. She teamed her outfit with Judith Leiber clutch and Christian Louboutin heels and loose tresses and coral lips completed her look. 'Twilight' star Ashley Greene was a vision in white when she walked in wearing a custom-made Donna Karan silk chiffon gown. She slipped her pretty feet into Casadie sandals and carried a metallic clutch. Minmal make-up, accessories and loose tresses completed her red carpet look. It was a shimmery gold-copper metallic Michael Kors one-shoulder gown for Jessica Alba, at the 'Oscars of the East Coast'. Side swept hair, plum lips, gold accessories and Wilfredo Rosado jewellery made the golden girl shine at the Met Ball. Cameron Diaz turned heads when she sashayed in at the Met Gala 2012 wearing a backless Stella McCartney beaded organic silk gown and teamed it with a McCartney clutch. The blonde bombshell shimmered in her champagne colour gown and rounded up her look with minimum make-up, jewellery and stylishly done hair. Kristen Stewart slipped into leather Belenciaga off-shoulder colour-block dress. The snakeskin bustier didn't complement the colourful skirt and her multi-strap black and white sandals gave us more eyesore. This surely wasn't her best fashion outing. Pop sensation Rihanna glided in wearing a body hugging alligator skin Tom Ford gown and though many don't agree with her choice of clothes, we feel that she killed it in the sleek black number, as she carries it really well. RiRi kept her make-up and accessories to a bare minimum and concentrated on her over-the-top hairdo, which had two buns. Black Christian Louboutin pumps completed her edgy red carpet appearance. Gwyneth Paltrow worked her way through the Metropolitan Museum of Art venue wearing a short lilac Prada dress. The halter-neck dress, with paillettes on the pockets, showed a lot of skin from the sides however, Paltrow managed to pull it off, courtesy her super fit body. Neatly tied hair, steel blue Prada peep-toes, clutch and Anna Hu earrings completed her look. Eva Mendes chose to wear a tangerine off-shoulder gown with stone encrusted bodice. The silhouette of the ensemble did nothing to flatter her sexy body and even the peplum detail on the gown, did nothing to elevate it. She finished the look with Fred Leighton Art Deco coral onyx and diamond earrings, Prada clutch and shoes. Hilary Swank made us go wow, when she walked in wearing a deep red Michael Kors halter neck gown. Jewels by Leighton, gold clutch and side swept soft curls completed her look. All we can say is that she lived up to her 'Million Dollar Baby' image. Kirsten Dunst did herself a disservice by attending the Met Costume Institute Gala in this two-piece Rodarte ensemble. She teamed her pumpkin-and-cream wool crepe double lapel jacket with a pumpkin wool and floral lace gown and accesorised the garment with Van Cleef & Arpels jewellery. It was Valentino again for Sarah Jessica Parker. SJP slipped into a long sleeve Valentino silk taffeta floral printed gown. Though we aren't digging her dress, she did a major fashion blunder by pairing up the outfit with matching Manolo Blahnik shoes, which of course is a complete no-no. She rounded up her look with gold cuffs and earrings.
