Hawksbill sea turtles are critically endangered. They can still be found in the waters of Belize and Mexico. They are becoming a rare sight for divers as their numbers have plummeted. This one is very relaxed as he cruises the reefs around Ambergrise Caye, Belize, looking for a meal. The Hawksbill turtle is a carnivore and his favorite food is coral. He scrapes off the tiny creatures with his hooked beak. These beautiful creatures usually swim away from people but this one allows a lucky diver to move right up and film him eating. A slow and respectful approach is crucial with any marine animal.
