By mid-2016, news surfaced that the smartphones were catching fire, posing concerns for major product safety failures. The South Korean company said the flaw caused them a $5.1 billion hit to its profit over the span of three quarters. The firm decided to discontinue and permanently stop the sales of the device in October.
