WASHINGTON — British Prime Minister Theresa May will have the privilege of being the first world leader to meet with President Trump in Washington on Friday.
The pressure is on May to have a successful meeting especially since burning its bridges with the European Union.
May will have to walk a tightrope in hopes of persuading protectionist Trump on the benefits of free trade with Britain.
Unfortunately, any trade talks will only be preliminary, since Britain is barred from substantial negotiations on new trade until it officially divorces with the EU.
Security, intelligence cooperation and the future of NATO should also be a part of the discussions.
May will also come bearing gifts in the form of a Scottish cup for Trump and some jam for Melania.
May also plans to have a look at the Winston Churchill bust that Trump had put back in the Oval Office.
The White House also announced that Trump and May are set to hold a joint press conference.
