Clashes erupted between police and protesters at renewed protests against police brutality on the outskirts of Paris on Saturday, February 11.

Around 2,000 protesters gathered outside the courthouse in the northern suburb of Bobigny over the alleged rape by police of a 22-year-old black man.

French news media reported a small group of demonstrators lit cars and hurled projectiles at riot police, who responded with tear gas.

Violent protests have followed last week’s arrest of the man identified as Theo in the Paris suburb of Aulnay-sous-Bois, who received an emergency operation and remains in hospital after he was allegedly raped with a truncheon by an officer. Credit: Clément Lanot (CLNEWS) via Storyful
