U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday invited Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to the White House, an Abbas spokesman said, after the two leaders spoke by phone for the first time since Trump took office. According to Abbas' spokesman, Trump expressed his desire for "real peace" in the region, after previously telling Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he would work to reboot peace talks. Abbas, on his part, emphasized his commitment to peace as a strategic stance, in order to bring about a Palestinian state side-by-side with the State of Israel.
