Thousands of Chileans marched the streets of Santiago and other cities throughout the country on March 26 to demand an end to the country’s privatised pension system.
The system, originally instituted in 1981 under the military rule of General Augusto Pinochet, requires Chileans to make monthly deposits for a final pension that only amounts to about US$400 a month for many poorer residents, BBC reported.
