A newly released timelapse video shows the journey of Sentinel-2B satellite from the factory floor to orbit above Earth. The satellite was launched into space on an Arianespace Vega rocket from Kourou, French Guiana, on March 7.
The 1.1-ton Sentinel-2B was the fifth satellite launched for Copernicus, an earth monitoring program directed by the European Commission and the European Space Agency.
Copernicus satellites capture images of Earth terrain that are used “to improve agricultural practices, monitor the world’s forests, detect pollution in lakes and coastal waters, and contribute to disaster mapping,” according to an ESA press release.
