Devastating flooding hit parts of Peru in March, resulting in dozens of deaths, billions of dollars’ worth of damage, and the displacement of about 700,000 people, the Weather Channel reported on March 29.

The Piura River burst its banks, and floodwaters approached six feet high in places.
