Transcript and Video: Trump Speaks About Strikes in Syria
By THE NEW YORK TIMESAPRIL 6, 2017
President Trump spoke after the United States carried out a missile attack in Syria
on Thursday in response to the Syrian government’s deadly chemical weapons attack.
There can be no dispute that Syria used banned chemical weapons, violated its obligations under
the Chemical Weapons Convention and ignored the urging of the U.N. Security Council.
WASHINGTON — The following is a transcript of President Trump’s remarks on Thursday
night from Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Fla., as transcribed by The New York Times.
My fellow Americans, on Tuesday, Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad launched a horrible chemical weapons attack on innocent civilians.
It is in this vital, national security interest of the United States to prevent and deter the spread and use of deadly chemical weapons.
Tonight I ordered a targeted military strike on the airfield in Syria from where the chemical attack was launched.
