Tomato chutney is an easy and quick South Indian chutney recipe where chopped tomatoes are cooked with dry red chillies, garlic, grated coconut and onion. Topped with a tadka this chutney goes very well with idli, dosa and chapati.
Ingredients:
2 tbsp Oil
12 Dry Red Chillies
2 tbsp Garlic, chopped
1 Onion, chopped
3 Tomatoes, chopped
1 tbsp Chana
2 tbsp Grated Fresh Coconut
Salt to taste
For Tadka
1 tsp Oil
1 tsp Mustard Seeds
10-12 Curry Leaves
Method:
- In a pan heat some oil.
- Once the oil is hot add dry red chillies, garlic, chopped onion. Mix well.
- Add chopped tomatoes and again mix well. Let the tomatoes become soft.
- Transfer this mixture into a bowl.
- In the same pan heat very little oil. Add the chana and roast it till it changes color. Add this roasted chana to the tomato mixture.
- Transfer this mixture into a mixer grinder along with grated coconut and salt.
- Grind everything to a paste.
- Heat a pan and transfer the ground chutney on that pan.
- For the tadka heat some oil. Add mustard seeds and curry leaves. Let them splutter. Add this tadka on the chutney. Mix well for a minute.
- Tomato chutney is ready to be served.
