Wildlife carer Denise Wade was able to take a break from her duties momentarily when one of the flying foxes in her care decided to use its foot to hold a banana on April 13.

Flying foxes use their feet to climb, scratch, groom, pick their teeth and, at times, hold their food.

“With five toes on each foot, flying fox feet posses a locking mechanism that ensures a flying fox maintains a firm grip on its perch,” Wade told Storyful. “To release this grip, the bat must flap its wings and gain altitude which relieves the pressure of their body weight allowing the tendons to relax and the bat to fly away from its branch.” Credit: Denise Wade via Storyful
