Dramatic footage has emerged from the US of lightning striking just a short distance away from a river boat cruise.

The video, captured early this month on Lake Dora, Florida, shows lightning hitting a frighteningly close distance away followed by a rumble of thunder.

According to the filmer, nobody was hurt.

"It was an experience we will never forget," he wrote online.
