59 Netherlands vs People's Republic of China 37
LONDON, 4 September
Mariska BEIJER (NED) hit a game-high 29 points to lead Netherlands into the semifinals of the women's wheelchair basketball competition with a 59-37 victory over China.
The centre was once again an impressive presence, keying a decisive 14-4 run in the third quarter which finally shook off the Chinese challenge.
Netherlands, who last won a medal in this competition in Atlanta 1996, will now meet either Germany or Great Britain on Thursday for a place in the final.
The Dutch led 13-6 after the opening quarter before their opponents went on an 8-2 run early in the second, but Netherlands edged 21-19 in front at half-time.
After shooting just 26 per cent in the first half, Netherlands stepped up massively, converting 56 per cent after the interval when Inge HUITZING (NED), who had missed her initial eight attempts, added all of her 10 points.
Eventually the Dutch turned superiority into dominance, with a late burst of 10 unanswered points.
FU Yongqing (CHN) had 18 points and 12 rebounds for China, who will now go in the classification crossovers with an opportunity to end up in fifth place.
