Severe fighting was reported between Iraqi forces and Islamic State fighters on May 28 as operations resumed near Mosul’s Old City, according to Iraqi media reports.
IS reportedly controls only 5 percent of territory in western Mosul since the major offensive started several months ago, Iraqi media reported, citing a military source.
The last remaining IS enclave includes the Old City center and three adjacent districts along the western bank of the Tigris river, Reuters reported.
Local activists said 15 civilians were killed, including women and children, in air strikes in old Mosul.
