Opposing political groups rallied in Portland, Oregon, on Sunday, June 4, and police attempted to keep the two groups separate. Two people were arrested in the early going, according to a news report.
The protests come as the city was still recovering from a stabbing attack on a MAX light rail car. Two people were killed and a third was seriously injured after coming to the defense of a girl wearing a hijab who was being harassed.
More than 60 separate groups gathered outside City Hall and on the federally-operated Terry Schrunk Plaza across the street. Mayor Ted Wheeler had asked federal authorities to revoke the permit for the Trump Free Speech Rally.
