The building housing the Venezuelan Supreme Court’s magistracy was set alight by protesters on June 12, as rallies against President Nicolas Maduro continued in Caracas.
More than 2,500 people were evacuated due to the fire, according to local reports that said the building was “attacked” for four hours without a police response.
At least three people were injured in clashes between the police and protesters near the magistracy building, according to El Nacional.
The violence flared after the court dismissed an appeal by chief prosecutor Luisa Ortega against Maduro’s plan to elect a legislative super body that would have the power to rewrite the constitution. Credit: Twitter/HectorAntolinez/Contrapuntovzla via Storyful
