Protesters banged pots and pans outside the residence of Arias Cardenas, the governor of the state of Zulia, in Maracaibo, Venezuela, on the evening of June 15 to “wake him up” to the crisis his constituents are facing.
The demonstrators, led by members of Venezuela’s opposition party Voluntad Popular, said ex-military Cardenas is an accomplice to Maduro and is ignoring the economic and humanitarian crisis the people of Zulia are facing.
Politician Juan Pablo Guanipa, who attended the protest, said: “While some don’t sleep because of hunger, others don’t sleep because the pans remind them of the weight of their conscience.” Credit: Angel Machado via Storyful
