Expeditioners living at Davis Station in Antarctica took to the icy waters on June 21 to celebrate the winter solstice.
The swimmers dived into the shiver-inducing -1 degree Celsius water and then planned to have a special midwinter lunch to mark the day.
Davis Station Leader Kirsten le Mar said: “After three weeks of darkness, today marks the beginning of longer days in Antarctica, although it will still be 19 days before the sun starts to peek above the horizon here at Davis.” Credit: Australian Antarctic Division via Storyful
