MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA — A man dressed as comic-book villain The Joker was shot by police while brandishing a toy gun at a Melbourne swingers party on Saturday.
Heavily armed police arrived at the swingers party after reportedly receiving a number of reports that a man apparently had a gun at the venue. The raunchy event, hosted by Inflation nightclub, was called ‘Erotic Fancy Dress Ball’, local news outlet The Age reported.
At 3:41 a.m., police confronted the man who was dressed as The Joker and having sex on couch with his partner, a woman dressed as Harley Quinn. Police claim they shot the man after he aimed his weapon at the officers.
However, club security claims not only was the gun fake, but the man was not even holding it when police arrived. The cops reportedly also Tasered the Joker after he was shot. Meanwhile, the girl dressed as Harley Quinn was shot in the leg.
The victims have been identified as 35-year-old Dale Ewins, and Zita Sukys — identified as only a government facility coordinator. The couple suffered non-life threatening injuries. Australia’s Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission announced it would investigate the shooting.
The nightclub told The Age that Ewins was not holding a gun — fake or otherwise — and was in a “compromising position” with Sukys when police stormed in and fired shots at them. Furthermore, no guests had contacted security with any complaints about there being weapons at the event.
