Protesters in Richmond, Virginia, on August 13 demanded the city’s Robert E. Lee monument be taken down.
Local media said demonstrators wanted the statue, which celebrates the Confederacy’s top general, to be removed.
White nationalists protesting plans to remove a monument of Lee in Charlottesville clashed with counter-protesters on Saturday, leading to three deaths and a dozen injuries.
A woman, named Heather Heyer, was struck and killed by a car that rammed into crowds during the confrontation. Two Virginia State Police personnel died in a helicopter crash while monitoring the incident in Charlottesville.
