Baltimore Removes Four Confederate Statues Overnight

The city of Baltimore removed four confederate monuments around the city early on August 16, according to local reports.

The Baltimore Sun reported that the statues removed included the Robert E. Lee and “Stonewall” Jackson monument in Wyman Park, the Confederate Soldiers and Sailors Monument on Mount Royal Avenue, the Confederate Women’s Monument on West University Parkway and the Roger B. Taney Monument on Mount Vernon Place.

The removal came after Baltimore City Council approved a plan on Monday, August 14, to remove the four statues following violence the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville on Saturday, August 12. Credit: Periscope/James MacArthur via Storyful
